It is really easy to
construct a garden pond in your backyard. The easiest way is to
go to the big box hardware store and select a preformed pond liner
along with the appropriate size pump.
You need to dig the hole for your garden pond just slightly larger than
the pond liner. Don’t dig the hole too much bigger than the
liner, or it will sag and not fit properly. You need to line the
hole with sand to prevent rocks and sticks from poking holes in your
liner.
After you install the garden pond liner in the hole, adjust the fit
with additional sand. You want a snug fit, but you do not want
bulges where the sand is trying to poke up through the liner or low
places where the liner is not supported properly.
When the liner is in place, you can place rocks and plants around to
hid the pump and accessories and give your garden pond a natural look
and feel. If you are creative, you can even construct a waterfall
to splash down into the pond itself. Or you can have a fountain
spraying into the air. Either works very well and helps create a
pleasant atmosphere in your back yard.
Another option is to purchase a preformed fountain, and have it
overflow into the pond of your water garden. Or even use just the
fountain itself, with plants and landscaping around it. The great
thing about a water garden is you can re-create it again and again,
whenever you feel like you would like a change of scenery in your back
yard.
Having a water garden is one of the fastest ways to decorate your back
yard and one of the most pleasant things that you can have in your
yard. It increases the value of your home and more importantly,
it is a great place to relax at the end of a stressful day.
